Lost on a Mountain in Maine: Shot in New York?

In this month's episode of the Pine Tree Picture Show we take a look at Lost on a Mountain in Maine, a story most Mainers are familiar. Based on the book by the same name, the film follows the true story of Donn Fendler as he gets separated from his family on the peak of Mount Katahdin. The film did take some liberties telling the story though - most notably the focus on Pamola, the Penobscot god that lives on the peak of Katahdin. With this focus, the film leaves out important parts of Donn's story like encounters with black bears.

Though, not all changes from the book veered from reality. The film also follows Donn's family through the ordeal of the search and rescue. Ultimately, the film is about the relationship between a boy and his father through this ordeal and it tells a very heartwarming story that we loved.

But was this filmed in Maine? No. The Maine tax incentives haven't been updated in almost twenty years, leading to productions like this to be shot in New York. Find out more about the production and story of Lost on a Mountain in Maine in this episode...
