The Story Behind the Photo:
I love the Carrabassett River. My folks had a place right along the river, and I used to spend many days soaking in those cool mountain waters, never getting lost in how lucky I was. In the summer, the river's only knee-deep but you'd find great little pools like this spot underneath the Carriage Road bridge. The river narrows to create a natural water slide - fun, but very painful if you're not careful. This photo, taken on a crisp August evening, captures a beautifully smokey sunset behind the behemoth that is Mount Bigelow - Maine's third highest peak. Of course, the mountain that gets all the attention around here is Sugarloaf, just down the road. You can have the mountains, just let me linger in this river for a little longer.
