The Story Behind the Photo:
Willard Beach will always be special to me. Growing up, I always visited this beach with my grandmother. Slathered in sunscreen and swimming in saltwater is how I spent my summer days with Gram - and it was always at Willard Beach. Later in high school, I became a lifeguard there, and eventually a lifeguard trainer. I have a long connection with this spot and these shacks were always an icon of Willard. The day after they were washed away by the storm, I managed to get a shingle from the wreckage before it was cleared. As far as I know, that's all that is left of it. That, and this photo I captured years prior, taken from the Thrasher Family Cemetery on the edge of the beach and campus with a very long lens. I had raced to this spot on my bike. I knew the location and the lens I'd need. I was just waiting for the perfect sunset for this photo. When I saw the pink skies that evening, I flew. I setup my camera on a tripod and took shot after shot. A moment too late, a moment too soon. The light at Portland Head flashes every 4 seconds and timing it just right to get the light glistening off the waters of Willard took several attempts. I'm glad I took the time to get this shot. This photo means so much to me now.

This is just beautiful! Very happy I have purchased 3 of these and the people that I gave them to and myself all grew up on Willard Beach in South Portland Maine. The picture is of what we called “The Point” where the lobster shacks are. We always went and dove off The point and swam all summer long! Oh what beautiful memories!
